TIP:

The nominee must be a resident of Calgary.

Nominators are required to obtain consent from their nominee to share personal information with the City of Calgary for the purposes of executing the Calgary Awards Program.

    The Award for Accessibility

    The Award for Accessibility recognizes buildings or facilities in Calgary that exceed the minimum requirements of Section 3.8, "Accessibility" of the National Building Code, Alberta edition, for accessibility by persons with disabilities.

    The Community Achievement Awards
    Arts

    Awarded to an individual Calgarian whose artistic accomplishments brought recognition to Calgary or whose volunteer and/or professional involvement contributed to developing a stronger arts community.

    1. Describe:

    • The nominee's artistic accomplishments that brought recognition to Calgary, and/or
    • The nominee's volunteer or professional activities that contributed to developing a stronger arts community in Calgary.

    Include specific projects, the nominee's role and duration of the projects and highlight the activities in 2021. (Required) Max 6000 characters.

    2. Describe the impact of the nominee's achievements and why you believe the nominee is deserving of this award. (Required) Max 6000 characters.

    The Community Achievement Awards
    Citizen of the Year

    Awarded to an outstanding individual Calgarian who, within the last five years, has made extraordinary contributions to the community, as a volunteer and/or professional, that improved the quality of life in Calgary or brought recognition to Calgary.

    1. Describe the extraordinary contributions made by the nominee, spanning the previous five years, that have:

    • Resulted in a better quality of life for Calgarians, and/or
    • Brought recognition to Calgary.

    The Community Achievement Awards
    Commerce

    Awarded to an individual Calgarian or Calgary business for improving business opportunities, making significant community or industry contributions, or bringing recognition to Calgary.

    1. Describe the nominee's business activities that:

    • Improved business opportunities in our city, and/or
    • Made significant community or industry contributions to Calgary, and/or
    • Brought recognition to Calgary.

    The Community Achievement Awards
    Community Advocate - Individual

    Awarded to an individual Calgarian who has made a significant contribution to the community through their volunteer activities and initiatives. Examples are: involvement with community endeavours, service clubs, community improvement programs, youth programs, or community associations.  

    1. Describe the specific volunteer activities and initiatives that the nominee is involved with that led to a significant contribution to the community. Include the nominee's role and duration of the initiatives and highlight the activities in 2021. (Required) Max 6000 characters.

    The Community Achievement Awards
    Community Advocate - Organization

    Awarded to a non-government, not-for-profit Calgary organization for outstanding service to the community by implementing, improving, supporting, or assisting a local established project or program that has been operating for a minimum 12 months.

    1. Describe the community service or the project/program that the nominee is involved with that led to a significant contribution to the community. Include specific activities and length of time in operation and highlight the activities in 2021. (Required) Max 6000 characters.

    The Community Achievement Awards
    Education

    Awarded to an individual Calgarian who has enhanced learning opportunities for Calgarians or brought recognition to Calgary due to outstanding academic achievement in their field.

    • The enhanced learning opportunities provided to Calgarians by the nominee, and/or
    • The nominee's outstanding academic achievements in their field that brought recognition to Calgary.

    The Community Achievement Awards
    Grant MacEwan Lifetime Achievement

    This award is named in honour of the lifetime achievements of Calgarian Dr. Grant MacEwan - writer, environmentalist and politician. City Council created this award to commemorate Dr. MacEwan's 90th birthday in 1992.

    The award goes to an individual Calgarian who, over the past 25 years or more, has made significant contributions to the community, as a volunteer and/or professional, that improved the quality of life for citizens or brought recognition to Calgary.

    1. Describe the significant contributions made by the nominee, over the past twenty-five years or more, that have:

    • Resulted in a better quality of life for Calgarians, and/or
    • Brought recognition to Calgary.

    Include specific projects, the nominee's role and duration of the projects. (Required)  Max 6000 characters.

    2. Describe the impact of the nominee's achievements on enhancing the quality of life in Calgary and why you believe the nominee is deserving of this award. (Required) Max 6000 characters.

    The Community Achievement Awards
    Heritage

    Awarded to an individual Calgarian, group or organization who has made an extraordinary contribution to the promotion of awareness and/or preservation of Calgary's heritage or history in the areas of built, non-built, archaeology, education or advocacy.

    1. Describe how the nominee has promoted awareness and/or preserved Calgary's built, non-built or archeological heritage or history. (Required) Max 6000 characters.

    2. Describe the impact of the nominee's achievements and why you believe the nominee is deserving of this award. (Required) Max 6000 characters.

    The Community Achievement Awards
    Youth

    Awarded to an individual Calgarian, 18 years old or younger on December 31, 2021, whose exceptional achievements improved the quality of life in Calgary or brought recognition to Calgary. The focus is on volunteer and community contributions, not academic achievement.

    1. Describe the volunteer contributions and/or exceptional achievements of the nominee that:

    • Improved the quality of life in Calgary, and/or
    • Brought recognition to Calgary.

    Include specific projects, the nominee's role and duration of the projects and highlight the activities in 2021.  (Required) Max 6000 characters.

    2. Describe the impact of the nominee's achievements and why you believe the nominee is deserving of this award. (Required) Max 6000 characters.

    The Environmental Achievement Award

    The Award recognizes leadership, innovation, and action in environmental stewardship that reduces the impact on and/or restores our city's natural environment. Contributions may include: application of advanced technology; climate resilience; conservation and efficiency; local volunteer-driven initiatives; and public education.

    1. Provide an overview of the environmental achievement. Focus on one specific achievement and how it improves the environmental sustainability within The City of Calgary. (Required) Max 6000 characters.

    2. Outline specific environmental impacts and benefits of the nominee’s action, program or initiative(s). (Required) Max 6000 characters.

    3. Describe what is unique about the nominee’s contribution (e.g. approaches, creativity, innovation, originality). (Required) Max 6000 characters.

    4. Describe the resources or partners involved. (Required) Max 6000 characters.

    The International Achievement Award

    The International Achievement Award recognizes an exceptional Calgarian whose volunteer and/or professional activities have gained international acclaim or brought recognition to Calgary.

    1. Describe the specific volunteer and/or professional activities the nominee was involved with that gained international acclaim, or brought recognition to Calgary. Include the nominee's role and duration of the activities. (Required) Max 6000 characters.

    2. Describe the impact of the nominee's achievements and why you believe the nominee is deserving of this award.  (Required) Max 6000 characters.

    3. Describe the nominee’s connection to Calgary. (Required) Max 6000 characters.

    Attach supporting materials

    To enhance the nomination, it is recommended that supporting attachments be included highlighting the relevance and merit of the nominee. 

    • Each file must be under 2 MB. Combine supporting documents into a maximum of three attachments with a combined total not to exceed 14 pages.
    • The nominee’s consent is not counted in these 14 pages.
    • Self-nominations for individuals require at least one letter of reference. Not required for organizations who self-nominate.
    • Supporting materials may include letters of reference, testimonials and newspaper articles. 
    • Do not include web links or URLs; print and scan or copy and paste the webpage content. Jury members will not click on any links or URLs.
    • Acceptable file types are: Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx), Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) and images (.jpg or .jpeg).
