Home based childcare - do you need a licence?

Answer these questions to find out if you need a provincial or municipal licence.


How many children under the age of 13 years will be cared for at any given time? (excluding the operator’s own children)
Will you be providing overnight care?
Will you have more than one employee at any given time?
Have you already obtained, or are you planning to obtain a provincial licence?

You will need a Provincial family day home agency licence issued by the Province of Alberta. You will need to register your business with the City of Calgary, but you will not need a Municipal business licence.

You will need a Private Home-based child care licence issued by the City of Calgary. You will not need a Provincial licence.
