Step 3: Resilient Roofing Installation Details

  • Remove old roof covering, repair/replace damaged roof sheathing as required
  • Install on clean, dry, and fully sealed sheathed deck (taped seams or fully adhered membrane)
  • Use of continuous underlayment throughout  
  • Class 4 rated roof system – e.g. shingles and capping that meet either UL2218 or FM4473  
  • Starter shingles used at eave, rake edges to provide a double seal against wind or as otherwise specified by the manufacturer  
  • Six nails per shingle or as otherwise specified by the manufacturer  
  • Remove and replace damaged drip edges  
  • Install valley flashings, as required  
  • Install ice and water shield at lower drip edges
